Ford Physicals
I am Dr. Gavini, a Board Certified Pediatrician serving the needs of the children of the Ford Motor Company executives traveling to various countries on assignment for the past ten years. I created this web site to help you receive proper information about the various heath care issues pertaining to the country of travel. The various links I have provided will give you current information about the heath-related issues of foreign travel. You will be able to communicate with me from anywhere in the world though the convenient email at gavinimd@aol.com. I can provide you with all the needed Immunizations for a given country and perform all the needed lab tests and X-rays as required by the Ford Motor Company and the country of travel. There are state-of-the-art lab and Radiology facilities, as well as a Pharmacy at my office. At the time of your visit I will provide you with current country specific CDC guidelines and other health related information.
Be sure to bring children's immunization records as well as all insurance information for any lab work and radiology to be done.
Travel Physical - Guidelines
The amount of time needed for a Physical Examination varies for each child. But as a general guideline, plan on spending 1-2 hours for the complete physical, travel shots and other immunization updates, lab work and any needed x-rays. In some cases, when there are some complicated health issues, it may take longer. My aim is to give your child a comprehensive and complete examination, and try to address all health issues before you travel overseas. Plan to come about 1/2 hour before the scheduled visit to complete the paper work (you can ask Lynn when you make your appointment to mail you all the needed forms to your home for your convenience). In some cases, multiple visits are needed to accommodate different immunizations that must be spaced out by a few days or weeks to avoid side affects.
Online Registration
For your convenience we have created a web based database that handles all the forms needed to be filled at the time of your visit. By doing this online, you will be able save a substantial amount of time during your visit.
You can fill in these forms online by clicking Online Registration. We can access and print your forms at the time of your visit to the office.
Where to Park
When you come to the office please enter through the Beck Road entrance and park in the South East parking lot next to the Emergency Room (the Medical Office building is very large and you may have to walk too long if you park elsewhere). When you enter the building through the South East entrance take the elevator to the second floor and my office is located on the immediate left.
Lab and X-ray
After the physical examination, in most cases your children need blood work. It is better that they do not eat anything sweet before coming in. Also refrain from eating at least four hours prior to the visit. Otherwise they will have to come back in the morning one more time to get the blood tests done.
The lab is located on the first floor of Providence Hospital in Novi (My office is on the second floor). This is a rather large building, if you are going to the lab from my office, Take the elevator outside my office to the 1st floor. Exit elevator and go straight. Follow hallway past the Pharmacy to the double doors. Walk through double doors and walk toward the Emergency Department entrance. When you reach the Emergency Department entrance turn right and go through the automatic sliding doors. Proceed straight to the front of the building. The Outpatient Registration Department is on your left. They will give you directions to the lab or x-ray after you register.
This Physical Examination includes a complete and thorough physical examination including hearing test, vision test and other needed blood work. Some of the blood work is very specific to the country of travel.
After all the test reports are received, I would prepare a medical report including the lab test reports and send copies to you and the Ford Motor Company World Headquarters.
